Big Bend National Park

I once saw a documentary about Big Bend National Park on a plane, and ever since I’ve had the desire to visit this vast, interesting landscape. While making our way back across the country, from West to East coast, this year, Ray and I finally had the time to visit! We stayed for one night at Chisos Basin Campground and about a week on the other side of the park at the Rio Grande Village Campground. We met up with a fellow photographer, Tobias Yoder, and went on an epic hike together. That particular hike was my first time using Nikon’s 28-400 lens, and I got to experience first hand how versatile it is for wildlife photography, especially in such a scenic place. We’ve made a conscious effort this year throughout our travels to meet friends and photographers along the way. It is always a wonderful way to connect over a shared passion, and continue to get inspired by one another. Ray and I did various hikes including The Lost Mine Trail hike that we began 2 hours before sunrise to get to the summit by dawn. It was incredible!!! It’s always an interesting experience hiking in the dark, and especially in a place with not a lot of light pollution so we were hiking amongst the stars in a stunning landscape. We also did the Boquillas Canyon Trail which also had beautiful scenery, and we were able to photograph a Canyon Wren while there. Enjoy the video below to hear more about our experience.
